Design and Construct –
The Belrose Landfill Site leachate was discharged untreated to sewer. The brief was to design and construct a leachate treatment plant to reduce the ammonia concentration discharged to sewer. Sydney Water Corporation requires less than 50 mgN/L ammonia in trade waste, and concentrations as high as 950 mgN/L have been recorded in the leachate at Belrose.
The requirement was to create a reliable automated treatment system with low operating costs to consistently meet all the requirements of the Trade Waste Agreement together with minimal operator input. Confirmation of the suitability of biological treatment led to the construction of a biological SBR plant to treat 200 kL/day of leachate with ammonia concentrations up to 950 mgN/L.
PET Exceeds Sydney Water Corporation Requirements
The leachate treatment plant provided Waste Service NSW with a plant that is producing effluent with an ammonia concentration of less than 1 mgN/L and meets all the requirements of the Trade Waste Agreement.
