Parklea Re-chlorination Plant Upgrade

Re-Chlorination Facility

Sydney Water determined that the Parklea Reservoir Re-chlorination plant in north-west Sydney, could not meet future demands. The original re-chlorination plant consisted of small sodium hypochlorite tanks which required Sydney Water operations staff to manually top up three times a week.
The aim of the project was to:
Remove the temporary costly and resource intensive manual chlorine dosing system
Restore water quality to the Parklea zone and Rouse Hill Reservoir
The project would replace the existing re-chlorination equipment with a new plant with increased capacity in order to meet the above objectives. This resulted in the design and construction of a new sodium hypochlorite storage building adjacent to the existing. Sodium Hypochlorite is delivered as a 12.5% solution and is stored in one of two chemical tanks. Batches of diluted (1-4%) sodium hypochlorite is prepared in a dosing tank before being dosed into the reservoir and mixed or can be dosed directly into the reservoir outlet mains.

Complete Project Responsibility

PET’s scope included civil works for road widening, new tank bund, bund epoxy coating, new building structure, chemical pipework, dosing pumps and panels as well as FRP tank access platforms. The design and construction of new electrical switchboard and PLC program located in a new switchroom. The project also included process commissioning of a live plant and decommissioning of existing process and electrical assets.
